Joyous Flow Arts was born to bring the Joy of Flow Arts to everyone!
Founder Samantha Burton discovered circus skills and Flow Arts for herself way back in 2008 at a Circus Society at Norwich's UEA. It opened up a whole new world - not just learning a few fun tricks but becoming a part of a diverse, safe, friendly community that brought inspiration, positive challenge, and growth in self-confidence and self-expression.
And that community is global - finding circus and Flow Arts groups that held the same space of welcome, creativity, fun and safety everywhere from Europe to Australia. So now, after many years of being inspired by others leading these communities elsewhere, Joyous Flow Arts was conceived, to create a space to bring these same experiences to others in her own local community of Burgess Hill and Mid-Sussex.
Flow Arts is the fusion of skill based circus props and creative movement or dance.
Juggling, Poi spinning, staff spinning (one or more), hooping, diabolo and many other circus skills are all fun to learn in and of themselves, but Flow Arts encourages whole body movement and creative expression, no matter where your skill level is at!
When we learn a new skill, it is a challenge to our brains and bodies, and sometimes our emotions too - but that moment where the move clicks, the muscle memory kicks in, and the smile and excitement, the joy of achieving something you couldn't do 5 minutes ago, that is the spirit of Joyous Flow Arts. The joy of expression, now you can do that move, that trick, that skill, and move about with it freely - this is our aim for everyone!
